Pink Delivery Truck Celebrates Cancer Survival and Raises

Newark, Del., August 14, 2008—Boulden family matriarch Nancy Boulden is feeling “in the pink” these days. That’s especially good news for this five-year breast cancer survivor, so her family decided to celebrate with pink paint, a solid commitment to raising awareness about the disease and a pledge to raise money for the American Cancer Society. After a brief unveiling ceremony held on Wednesday morning, August 13, the very visible Boulden family commitment can be seen, beginning next week, when the bright pink delivery truck begins making its rounds in New Castle County, Del., Cecil County, Md., and southern Chester County, Pa.

Tim Boulden, president of Boulden Propane, said the 62-year old, family-owned propane company based in Newark, Del., thought painting one if its 3,200-gallon propane delivery trucks pink was a good way to focus attention on breast cancer. “It’s not every day that you see a very large, very pink delivery truck on the road,” said Boulden. “Our hope is that it will make people think and take action.”

Boulden Propane is also donating a penny for each gallon of propane delivered by the pink truck to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.

“When we first told the drivers about it no one wanted to be assigned to the pink truck,” said Boulden. “Now they all want a turn as driver because they understand how a simple thing like painting a truck pink can make a difference—maybe even save lives.”
